Field Trip Back in Time

This week a group of kids from our parish had a one room schoolhouse experience at the Quiet Valley Living History Farm. They spent a full 4hrs in the schoolhouse learning lessons, putting on a little play, reciting some poems, and learning some old games.

All the children dressed in period costumes (to the best of their ability...you will notice Ben is just wearing pants and a flannel shirt. It was the best we could do) and brought their lunch in pails and baskets.

The moms found it funny, apparently when reserving the field trip the people at the farm didn't realize that a homeschool group meant that the kids would be all different ages and grade levels. When we got there and they realized the "schoolmarm" was a bit concerned over what she should do about all the different levels. We chuckled a little since this is what life in a homeschool is like, but more importantly....wasn't that the life of a teacher in a one room school house afterall???

It turned out her nerves were for nothing because by the end of the day she complimented the children on their lovely attitudes and good behavior. Ohhh and apparently she was quite smitten with Annabella and so Anna was a bit of a teacher's pet. I hope we get to do this every year.

And just a few pics of Lucy because we would hate to leave her out..

Tell them I went to a one room school. In the winter we would take a potato wrapped in foil - put it on the stove when we got there in the morning and we would have a baked potato for lunch.

This is one of those field trips you will remember for a long time. Great pics of the kids.
